President Xi Jinping led the event.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, a memorial ceremony was held at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on September 3, 2025. President Xi Jinping led the event, which honored China's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The ceremony began with an 80-gun salute, followed by a flag-raising ceremony and the national anthem. Over 50,000 people attended, including high-ranking Chinese officials, war veterans, and members of the public. Leaders and guests from dozens of other countries were also present.
President Xi Jinping gave a speech and inspected the troops before a parade featuring 45 military formations.
The event served as a reminder of China's 14-year struggle, which resulted in more than 35 million Chinese casualties. It also celebrated Japan's formal surrender on September 2, 1945, a key event that led China to designate September 3 as Victory Day.
